Hollywood Sign Hike

Last week my beautiful friend Henriette (check out her blog TalkToTheThan) and I decided to hike up to the Hollywood Sign. Neither us had ever been before so we thought it was about time to make it happen.

We met by Beachwood Cafe and walked up Beachwood Drive. We were aware that the most popular route, the one from Beachwood Drive in Beachwood Canyon, was closed to hikers last year, but we managed to enter a trail on Mulholland Hwy. It probably took us between 1,5h to get up from the beginning of the trail. We got up there around 5pm and decided to stay another 2 hours so we could catch the sunset.

How beautiful this view? It was so refreshing to get out of the hustle and bustle of LA and just be in nature for a little bit. And yes, we're definitely still in the city but this is much better than nothing.

On our way down we stopped to enjoy the view behind the sign, overlooking Burbank.

The hike was a great workout and the view we got rewarded with at the top even better. I would definitely recommend going up a couple of hours before sunset. Just make sure to calculate enough time down so you won't have to walk in the dark. The trails close after sunset and it's quite likely you'd meet a coyote or two after dark.

We are trying to discover more hikes in and around LA. We always end up doing the usual ones around where we live (Griffith Park, Wisdom Tree and Runyon) but would love to discover new ones! I've heard there are some amazing hikes in the Malibu mountains!
